    The New York City Fire Code changes frequently. All Certificate of Fitness holders must read and be familiar with the latest Study Materials.

      This Certificate of Fitness is valid until October 31, up to two years from the date of issue. More info

        The NYC Fire Department (FDNY) will send a Renewal Notice 90 days before the expiration date. This letter includes the certificate number, the expiration date, and the amount of the renewal fee. It is the certificate holder’s responsibility to renew the certificate within 364 days of the expiration date. Certificates that are more than one year past their expiration date will not be renewed and a new application will need to be submitted.

      To change your mailing address, submit the following in person or by mail to the NYC Fire Department (FDNY), Cashier’s Unit, 9 MetroTech Center, Brooklyn, NY 11201: More info
        • A letter requesting the change of mailing address.
        • A copy of your certificate with your old mailing address.
        • A copy of your employee ID.
        • A letter from your city agency on official letterhead to confirm that you are a current employee and that the Certificate of Fitness will be used as part of your work-related responsibilities.

      To change your work location, submit the following in person or by mail to NYC Fire Department (FDNY), Cashier’s Unit, 9 MetroTech Center, Brooklyn, NY 11201: More info
        • A copy of your certificate with your old work location.
        • A copy of your employee ID.
        • A letter from your city agency on official letterhead to confirm: 1) your new work location; and 2) that you are a current employee and that the Certificate of Fitness will be used as part of your work-related responsibilities.

      To request a replacement certificate, submit the following in person or by mail to the NYC Fire Department (FDNY), Cashier’s Unit, 9 MetroTech Center, Brooklyn, NY 11201: More info
        • A letter requesting a replacement certificate and stating your social security number and mailing address.
        • A government-issued photo identification (such as a Driver’s License or Passport). The name on the ID must match the name on the certificate.
        • A copy of your employee ID.
        • A letter from your city agency on official letterhead to confirm that you are a current employee and that the Certificate of Fitness will be used as part of your work-related responsibilities.

      Mail your Renewal Notice (or if you did not receive a Renewal Notice, a copy of your certificate), and if applicable, your fee payment and supporting documents to:

        To request a fee exemption, mail a copy of your employee ID and a letter from the NYC Department of Education (DOE) on official letterhead to confirm that you are a current employee and that you will use the Certificate of Fitness as part of your work-related responsibilities.

          If all the requirements are met, a certificate will be mailed out within four to six weeks.

              To request a fee exemption, submit a copy of your employee ID and a letter from the NYC Department of Education (DOE) agency on official letterhead to confirm that you are a current employee and that you will use the Certificate of Fitness as part of your work-related responsibilities.
